Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program
The Melrose Housing Authority (MHA) is currently authorized to assist 240 households on the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program.
Households admitted to this program must locate a unit in the private housing market that meets HUD rent and Housing Quality Standards (HQS) requirements.
The MHA will then enter into a one-year Housing Assistance Payment Contract with their landlord. Households pay a monthly rent equal to 30% - 40% of their adjusted monthly gross income and the MHA pays the balance of the contract rent directly to the landlord.
Program participants may also be eligible for MHA's Family Self-sufficiency (FSS) Program.
Eligibility is based on income and other program requirements. Applications are available through the MassNAHRO Section 8 Centralized Waiting List.
Preferences are available to qualified displaced households, disabled, and persons who currently work or reside in Melrose.
